TWC Youth Driver Education Funding Program for foster care and unhomed/homeless impacted individuals.

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC)

Driver  Education Funding Program pays for driver education classes, in-car lessons, road tests, and other fees for services necessary to obtain a Texas driver's license for youth and young adults who were in:

  • foster care
  • experienced family violence
  • experienced homelessness

It is especially hard for this population to find jobs, so the government has created this special program to help bridge the gap. 

This Drivers Education Funding program will pay for driver's education classes for qualified people, helping them learn how to drive and get a Texas driver's license.

The program will cover all the costs for driver training and related fees. It's a way to help more people find jobs!

How do you register for the Texas Workforce Commission's Youth Driver Education Funding Program?

You can apply for free driver's education if you meet at least one of these criteria:

  • You are younger than 18 years old and residing in foster care now
  • You are at least 18 years old but younger than 21, in foster care being paid for by the Department of Family and Protective Services.
  • You experienced dating violence, or you are a child of someone who experienced dating violence.
  • You experienced family violence, or you are a child of someone who experienced family violence.
  • You are younger than 26 years old and aged out of the Texas Foster Care system or have experienced homelessness.
  • You are younger than 26 years old and have experienced or are experiencing homelessness.

The Youth Driver Education Funding Program pays for:

  • 24-Hour Driver Ed Class (In-Person or on Zoom)
  • 7 Hours of Driving Lessons (Vehicle Provided)
  • 7 Hours of In-Car Observation (Vehicle Provided)
  • DPS-Authorized Road Test
